AI Detector Minimum Word Count
Updated
The AI detector minimum word count on this site is 300 words, and the check won't run on less. That can be frustrating with emails, social posts or short answers, but it's deliberate: on short texts, detection results swing widely and are much more likely to be wrong.
Limitations: Every result is a probability that can be wrong, not proof of how something was written. How results can be wrong →

Why There Is an AI Detector Minimum Word Count
AI detection is statistical. A model looks at patterns across many words and sentences; with only a few sentences there isn't enough evidence, and a single unusual phrase can swing the score either way.
Rather than show a confident-looking number that means little, the tool refuses texts under the minimum.
Limits on This Site
- Minimum: 300 words for AI text detection.
- Maximum: 150,000 characters per check.
- Grammar checker: up to 20,000 characters per check.
- Uploads: .txt, .md, .docx or .pdf files up to 8 MB.
What Not to Do With Short Texts
Don't pad a short text with filler to reach the minimum; the score would describe the padding as much as the original. Don't combine texts by different people, because the score then describes nobody in particular.
Combining several pieces by the same writer is possible, but the result reflects all of them together, not any single piece.
Judging Short Writing Without a Detector
For short answers, context is more useful: does the reply engage with the specific question or conversation, match the writer's usual voice, and include details only they would know? Asking a follow-up question is often the quickest check of all.
Short Texts on Other Tools
The plagiarism checker can be useful on shorter passages, since it looks for matching text rather than writing patterns. A short paragraph copied from a web page can still be found.
The grammar checker works on short texts too, though it checks correctness, not authorship. Neither tool tells you whether a short text was written by AI.
For a quick self-check on your own short writing, read it aloud: generic phrasing you would never say yourself is the part worth rewriting, whatever any tool says.
Frequently asked questions
It needs at least 300 words. Shorter texts give unreliable results, so the check doesn't run.
Yes, 150,000 characters per check. Longer documents can be checked in parts.
We don't recommend it. The score would then reflect the filler as much as the original text.
Generally, more text gives a detector more evidence, but no length makes a result proof.
